About Tiffany Uzor
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, but you might also call me a therapist who provides in office and virtual counseling sessions to clients in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. I help people who want to develop skills to move forward from stuck places but are buried under faulty thought patterns and coping skills that no longer serve them well. I guide clients through exercises to help them identify how their thoughts, feelings and behaviors are connected so that they can have a new level of awareness and respond appropriately in challenging circumstances. I know from my own path to wellness that avoiding problems will not make them go away. I believe there are seasons in life when you need to talk to someone who is outside of your social circle.
Experience
My professional counseling career began as a bereavement volunteer at Heart-to-Heart Hospice while in graduate school. As a bereavement volunteer my job was to follow up with families who lost loved ones in the care of the hospice agency. I provided grief counseling to family members for a year after the death of their loved one. My first practicum experience gave me the opportunity to work in an Inpatient Psychiatric Unit with patients who struggled with addictions, depression, and suicidal ideation. During my time there my role was to facilitate individual and group counseling sessions with the patients. My next placement was at Denton County Juvenile Detention Center working with adolescents from ages 10 -19 who were detained for various offenses. My work with the detainees included weekly individual and group counseling sessions. Part of my job was to help them develop resiliency and effective coping skills that would serve them well beyond detention. I moved on to work in private practice focusing on couples counseling. I have helped over 175 couples work through relationship challenges, including assisting couples recover from affairs, blended family stressors, sexual desire differences, multicultural family dynamics, life transitions, parenting, and pre-marital counseling as a Prepare/Enrich facilitator.
I believe that life events are not the cause of distress, but rather our thoughts about those events. I use a collaborative approach to help clients find solutions that are catalysts to healing.
